Overview of the 'Human Resources' section of
MHAssist®
Compare
a HR system with an Accounts system
The best way to describe a
good human resources system is to compare it with an
accounts system. A good accounts system would comprise all the elements required to manage a company's
finances:
Sales Ledger, Purchase Ledger, VAT Ledger, Banking
Records etc. Otherwise the accounts would be incomplete
and meaningless.
Similarly a good
human resources system contains all the elements
required to manage human resources. Personnel
management, recruitment, disciplinary and grievance
procedures and contracts of employment etc.
What HR and Accounts systems have in common
Where a good human resources system has a direct parallel
with an accounting system is that it keeps RECORDS.
Good records are
absolutely essential. Should a legal dispute occur those
records will provide security as it will act as the
employer's first line of defence at a Tribunal.
The Contract of Employment
At the heart of MHAssist human resource procedures is a
well drafted contract of employment.
Once this powerful document is implemented all other
procedures slip into place. A company will enjoy an increase in
productivity as management and staff have a clearer
understanding of their obligations. |

Why is
the MHAssist contract of employment powerful?
Because the provisions in
the contract contain 45 key clauses that help to avoid the most common employment
situations that cause disputes. Its innovative approach
also allows employers to
customise and/or add certain clauses to suit individual business
circumstances.
Different contracts for different groups
Employers can produce master
contracts for different groups of workers and if necessary
these contracts can take into account collective trade
union agreements. Once
master contracts are produced they are saved on-line and ready for
line managers to distribute to individual workers as
required.
Managing an employee's contract after it has been issued
Once the contract has
been issued to an employee it has to be MANAGED. For
example, how does the employer handle long term sickness?
Holiday disputes? Redundancy? Retirement? Disciplinary and
grievance issues? The answer is that MHAssist
provides all the tools and advice necessary to manage
those circumstances.
How
does MHAssist manage particular issues?
Example. In the case of
disciplinary action against an employee it is normal for the employer to hold a meeting with the
employee in the first instance.
According to the ACAS
code of practice, notice of the meeting has to be given to the
employee in writing. Therefore, the MHAssist wizard produces a
legally compliant letter of notice to be given to the
employee and automatically saves it for future reference.
All the employer has to do is answer relevant questions to
produce the letter. Subsequent disciplinary procedures are
dealt with in a similar manner.
